Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain. It leads to symptoms such as:

It is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia and Alzheimer’s. It is rare affecting approximately 6 per 100,000.

It typically affected males more than females and often aged 60-70 years.

Physiotherapy can assist with gait and balance problems to maximise functional ability and minimise the risk of falls. Walking aids may be required to help individuals remain as independent as possible.

Occupational therapy can assist with adaptations as and when required whilst Speech therapy will help monitor and manage speech and swallow difficulties.
