Transverse Myelitis

Transverse Myelitis (also referred to as TM) is a condition that results from inflammation to the spinal cord which extends across the width of the spinal cord (transverse). The spinal cord carries nerve signals from the brain to the rest of the body. The protective layer of the nerves are affected by the Inflammation and this disrupts the communication signal from the brain.

Transverse Myelitis may occur at any level of the spinal cord and this will dictate which limbs are involved. The most common level of inflammation occurs in the thoracic region of the spinal cord.
